Did you try the command sim/VR/general/reset_view?

Sorry to be so stupid but how do I do that. I am in VR at the moment and can only find VR/Rest VR View which just gets me back to that 4m in front of the helicopter view.

The command you advised me to try was of course the command behind the button assignment I used. So, no that did not work.

Are you sure the button is being used? I occasionally have the situation with VR that the X-Plane window appears to be in the foreground, but is not in the foreground. Keyboard inputs are then not recognized, but joystick buttons work.
After intensive research, we are convinced that the EC 135 is not responsible for your problem.
For your understanding: The mentioned command is a function build-in to X-Plane. It sets the VR's view point to the position and direction specified as a teleport hotspot for the pilot in the ec135_vrconfig.txt file.
The file should contain the following data:
Another possibility is that another plugin intervenes here. To test this, send all plugins that are not part of X-Plane vanilla into "quarantine", including things like Gizmo, Fly with Lua and any scenery plugins. The EC 135 plugin must of course remain.
